Woodland in the City
It started in 1999 with cows in Chicago, Guitars in Cleveland, Labrador retrievers in Aspen. Soon Buffalo was bedeck
ed with buffaloes. It’s a part of a worldwide public art craze built around oversized fiberglass animal statues. Olean joined communities across the US when four-foot high fiberglass squirrels sprouted up along city streets in June 2007. Olean is now home to 28 squirrels scampering around the city! The painted 4- foot tall fiberglass squirrels have caught people’s eyes, encouraged them to take walks and even drawn in new visitors to the Olean area.
